Elephant headed, Lord Ganesha is the most popular Indian God. In the month of August, Indians celebrate Ganesha’s birthday, which is called Vinayaka Chaturthi. One of the key highlights of this festival, is the Kozhukattai, believed to be one of Lord Ganesha’s favourites. It is customary to make Kozhukattai on the very first day of this festival.

Many families in South India, even today make the Kozhukattai. This mould has been designed to make more than one at a time. And is made of teakwood with copper moulds. This Mould displayed is from a Chettiyar hamlet in Chettinad in Southern India. The Tamilians call this “Kozhukattai Achu” meaning Kozhukattai Press. The Chettiyars are also known as "Nagarathars" meaning the “people from the town” or “modern people”. This forms a part of the personal antique collection of Mr. Steve Borgia and his family.
