he art of designing the Wooden Bucket and the Water Container started centuries back. Wooden buckets are the first kind of buckets ever made. They were made heavy, so that when the bucket hits the surface of the water in the well, it would easily sink in, hence, making the process of fetching the water from the well convenient. Ayurveda, the natural healing system which uses natural herbs and spices, originated from India.

Hence, people of India paid attention to every material used to make vessels. The Wooden Bucket and the Water Container exhibited here are one of their kind. They are made out of the Pongam tree. It is believed that this wood has antiseptic properties. Hence, the water is fetched from the well with the bucket and is stored overnight and is only used after sun rise.
It is believed that water exposed to the rays of sun, gained certain properties that would benefit the skin. The water is then used for bathing by Royal Families. In modern days, well buckets are commonly made out of metal. The Wooden Bucket and Water Container are from a part of the personal antique collection of Mr. Steve Borgia and his family. | |
